Having drooled over numerous, mouthwatering photos on Bastian’s instagram feed, a meal at this renowned restaurant was definitely on my to-do list while visiting Mumbai. From outside, this eatery is easy to miss with its unassuming entrance but once inside, you find yourself in a bustling, joyful space with lots of happy customers with satisfied stomachs!
We started off our lunch with the Gluten free Hummus plate, a wholesome bowl bursting with freshness! Imagine a beautiful, smooth chickpea and edamame hummus offset by piquant pickled onions, slaw, radish, jalapenos, chickpeas and tasty gluten free toast! This was followed by some delicious, Shrimp and Pork Pot Stickers with Chili Oil so good, I could’ve drank it by itself! Not often does the humble chili oil overshadow the main item!
We decided to continue with the bowl theme and ordered Pan seared snapper with Miso glaze, charred broccoli, sesame carrots and scallions and Chicken Teriyaki with Brown Rice. Both of them were filling and packed with flavour but didn’t leave you over stuffed.
After eating a healthy meal thus far and being very proud of ourselves, we felt we needed to spoil it all by indulging in a grand finale! And what an end to a brilliant meal it was! Close your eyes and visualise this as you read it – Coffee Toffee Cheesecake with salted caramel, espresso crumble and chocolate praline! Every spoonful of this humongous slice of decadent cheesecake topped with piles of everything sinful, made us swoon! The perfect mélange of coffee, toffee and chocolate with salted caramel was truly ambrosial.
So Bastian lived up to its exalted reputation and you can understand why this place is popular with the who’s who of Mumbai, with food which will make you return again and again!
