Wadis at Wadeshwar

A casual introduction by a friend led to an affair that is still going strong. It has been four years and every single time I take a trip to Pune I make a beeline to the nearest Wadeshwar for their Kothambir wadi and Jalebi junction for the crispiest jalebis evah!

The Kothambir wadi has been unfairly overshadowed by the fiery misal, usal and the ubiquitous vada pav. It is definitely time for it to step out of the shadows and claim its place. Primarily made of a batter of besan (chickpea flour), a little rice flour, lots of green chillies and fresh coriander, steamed and then deep fried until the top coat has a slight crunch and the core is firm and velvety. A must try if you are in Pune. It is quite spicy but don’t let that deter you, treat it as an opportunity to try the famous Mango Mastani (icecream milk shake)

“Wadeshwar” is a Pune based brand and has branches across the city. The menu offers a mix of popular South Indian and Maharashtrian short eats along with the usual sandwiches, shakes. A section of the menu is dedicated to the ‘health conscious’ customers too. Pricing is pocket friendly and the ambience is basic QSR format.
