Oh So Healthy Apple Crumble – Sugar Free Version

 Have you ever hesitated indulging in your favourite apple crumble because of its high sugar content?  

Here’s an amazingly delicious apple crumble recipe where you won’t even notice the missing sugar content! 

Ingredients:

Base

  1. 6 red apples 
  1. 2 tbs rice malt syrup/ jaggery powder 
  1. 1 tbs lemon juice 
  1. 2 tsp cinnamon 
  1. ½ tsp nutmeg 
  1. Pinch of salt 
  1. 1½ tbs plain flour- regular or gluten free, whichever you prefer 
  1. ½ water 

Crumble

  1. 1 cup rolled oats or 1 cup of quinoa flakes for gluten free 
  1. ½ cup almond flour 
  1. 2 tbs rice malt syrup 
  1. 2 tsp cinnamon 
  1. ¼ cup of coconut oil 
  1. Natural yoghurt to serve 

Method 

  1. Preheat the oven to 180⁰C/ 350⁰F 
  1. Slice the apples. Layer the slices in a baking dish.  
  1. Add lemon juice, rice malt syrup, cinnamon and nutmeg. Mix until the apples are coated. 
  1. Whisk together flour, water and salt, and pour over the apple mixture. Give everything another good stir. 
  1. In another bowl, mix rolled oats, almond flour, rice malt syrup, cinnamon, and coconut oil. Sprinkle over the apples. 
  1. Place the bowl in oven. Bake for 40-55 mins until golden and apples start to bubble. 
  1. Serve hot with yogurt. 

Optional: If you like berries add them in.
